9 Tips for Getting the Most out of ALLA's Virtual Conference 2021

 ALLA’s first ever virtual conference is less than a day away, and sure, by now Zoom and Teams and virtual webinars have become standard (thanks Covid), but if you’re looking at two days of online conferencing this can be quite daunting. To help we’ve pulled together some tips on how to get the most out of (or just survive) an online conference. Law Council of Australia Webinar: Frontline Legal Services in Times of Crisis

The Law Council of Australia is delivering an online webinar of the topic of "Frontline legal services in times of crisis".  The legal assistance sector has carried many Australians through times of extreme crisis, with recent years no exception – from bushfires to the COVID-19 pandemic. This webinar will explore the achievements of the sector in trying times, and examine the challenges it has come up against. Leaders in the sector Rowan McRae, Nassim Arrange and David Woodroffe will join with the Law Council’s President, Dr Jacoba Brasch QC, to identify improvements to be made so that the sector is better equipped to respond in future emergencies. The 2021 ALLA conference is now going virtual!

 In great news for those in Western Australia, the 2021 ALLA conference is now going virtual. The program will be much as usual, plus all the usual exhibitors, but tweaked to allow for a virtual conference.  This is a great opportunity for ALLA (WA) members to attend, without the pesky costs of flights, accommodation and of course, hard-borders.  The details for our conference are below: Dates: 22-24 September 2021 Theme: ALLA – Past / Present / Future Registration fees: Member – $120.00 Speaker Registration – $100.00 Non Member Registration – $150.00 To register for the event please go to the ALLA Conference website .  The ALLA (WA) Committee hopes 'to see' many of you at the conference.

Surplus law reports, journals, texts available at the Old Supreme Court Law Library Stirling Gardens

The Law Library at the David Malcolm Justice Centre has completed the merger of the Department of Justice Library with the old Law Library at the Supreme Court Stirling Gardens and has identified excess materials that are now on offer to interested parties on a first-come-first-served basis.  These excess materials have previously been offered to universities, the State Library, the Parliamentary Library, government libraries and community legal centres.  As the next step, the surplus materials will be available for viewing by the profession during business hours (8:30am-5pm)  from Wednesday 6  March through to Friday 8  March 2019  by appointment only .  To make an appointment to view the material at the old Law Library at the Supreme Court Stirling Gardens, please email the Law Library at  llwa@justice.wa.gov.au  or call the Law Library Reference Desk on (08) 9264 1498 by 5pm 5 March 2019.  In addition to the material held at the Sup...

Gatehouse Legal Salary guide released - with no library professional information

Melbourne-based Legal recruitment firm Gatehouse Legal has released a its 2018-2019 Private Practice/Australia Salary Guide , with separate documents for private practice earnings and legal support professionals. The Legal and Office support guide shows earnings ranges for legal receptionists, legal secretaries, paralegals, senior conveyancers, mailroom clerks, administration assistants, payroll officers, account managers, finance directors, etc. but does not include any information about pay rates for law librarians or other information professional categories. The guides can be obtained from Gatehouse Legal's website .

Renew your membership by June 30

Just a reminder that membership renewals for Australian Law Librarians' Association (ALLA) are due by the end of June. In addition to various CPD and social events that ALLA organise for law librarians, your ALLA membership also entitles you to a discount to attend the 2018 ALLA conference in Darwin as well as a number of other discounts with other associations through ALLA's agreements with them.
