Dear ALLA(WA) members, On the 30th November we had our ALLA(WA) AGM and welcomed our 2022-23 committee. An email with the AGM minutes and reports will be sent to members shortly.    Our new committee is as follows: President: David McDowell Secretary: Jane Beer Treasurer: Anne Young Committee members: Gilien Bevan, Alice Hewitt, Sky Atkins, Fiona Archibald I want to extend a warm welcome to Sky Atkins (Herbert Smith Freehills) and Fiona Archibald (Federal Court of Australia) for joining the committee and thank returning committee members for volunteering their time for another term. This will be my last term as President and Jane’s last term as Secretary so I encourage any interested members to attend our committee meetings throughout the year and learn about the activities of the Committee as well as these positions throughout the year as they will be vacant at the next AGM. The ALLA (WA) AGM, including special resolution vote, and annual dinner are next week on Wednesday 30 November.  ALLA (WA) members will have received an email containing details of the special resolution to be voted upon at the AGM.  ALLA (WA) members are also invited to join the new Committee at The Terrace Hotel for a complimentary dinner (pay-as-you-go drinks) following the AGM.  RSVPs and Proxies for the AGM and dinner are due by COB of Friday 25 November.  Send your Proxy or RSVP to the ALLA (WA) Secretary, Jane Beer .  Even if you can't join us, please complete your proxy form as it is important to enable the AGM to reach the necessary quorum for the AGM to proceed and for the Committee to be elected for the 2022-2023 year.  If you are having difficulties appointing a proxy, feel free to contact the current Committee who will be attending the AGM. They will be happy to act as proxy for those who require one.   

Notice of AGM  On Tuesday 18 October 2022, ALLA (WA) Members will have received Notice of the ALLA (WA) Annual General Meeting to be held on Wednesday 30 November 2022 at 5.30pm.  If you have not received this Notice, and are a current ALLA (WA) member, please reach out to the  ALLA (WA) Secretary, Jane Beer .  The AGM will take place at Allens, Level 11, Mia Yellagonga Tower 2, 5 Spring Street, Perth.  After the meeting, Gilien Bevan will show us Allen's new library space.  This will then be followed by our end of year dinner at The Terrace Hotel, 237 St George's Terrace, Perth - a short 2 minute walk from Allens.  Special Resolution At the AGM, there will be a special resolution proposing to amend the  Rules of the Australian Law Librarian's Association (Western Australian Division) Inc  (2021).  The AGM notice contains some details of the special resolution, and more details will be sent out closer to the date, together with a proxy v...

The ALLA (WA) Committee met on 12 October 2022 to discuss a number of important activities for the Division.  The Committee have decided that going forward we will provide recaps of what was discussed at each meeting to better share the work of the Committee with our Members. Key topics discussed at the meeting included:  Updating the ALLA (WA) Inc. Rules to meet legislative requirements Accessibility of Western Australian COVID-19 Directions AustLII medium neutral citation inaccuracy Database Roundtable Session  ALLA (WA) AGM and End of Year Dinner - 30 November 2022 Full details for the ALLA (WA) Annual General Meeting,  along with details for the End of Year Dinner and special resolutions to update the ALLA (WA) Rules, will be shared with ALLA WA Members soon.  The next ALLA (WA) Committee meeting will take place on Thursday 3 November at lunchtime via Teams. The ALLA Conference is a little over a week away!  Unfortunately our President David McDowell, will not be able to attend the Conference, but the ALLA(WA) Committee wish all our WA members who are attending a great Conference, particularly our WA Bursary recipients, National Fellowship recipients, and conference presenters.  We've compiled compiled some important ALLA Conference information below:    ALLA Ltd. AGM The ALLA Ltd AGM notice was sent via Google Groups. The AGM will take place on Thursday, August 25th at 4.00pm – 5.00pm EST in Hobart as part of the 2022 ALLA Conference. Dear ALLA(WA) members, Happy New Year! I hope you all managed to have a relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year holidays.  Before we welcomed 2022, ALLA (WA) held its AGM on the 25th November 2021 at Grand Bar & Bistro. Thank you to everyone that attended and to Jane Beer and Alice Hewitt for organising the venue and food. The lamb shanks were massive!     The Special Resolution brought forward to remove the requirement of having a Vice President position and reducing the minimum general committee member positions to two members was passed unanimously. These changes to our ALLA (WA) Rules have been submitted to and processed by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, Western Australia.  Our ALLA Rules received an audit during this process and it was picked up that we do not currently have a section in our Rules that addresses disputes between members and the association. Our ALLA (WA) Christmas Dinner and AGM is fast approaching – taking place on 25 November 2021 at the Grand Bar & Bistro. The AGM will commence at 5.15pm. A complimentary two course dinner will be served, with drinks to be pay as you go. We have been asked by the venue to confirm our final numbers earlier than expected, and have had to move the RSVP date up to 9 November 2021. Please let ALLA (WA) Secretary Jane Beer know by COB Tuesday 9 th November if you are able to make it, along with details of any dietary requirements. It's the ALLA (WA) Blog's 11th Birthday! Our first post back on the 25th of October 2010 was a President's Letter , from our then  President Jacqueline Seligmann.  The ALLA (WA) Committe thanks all of our current and past contributors and readers.  To celebrate this milestone, our current President David McDowell has a fresh new President's Letter.

Hi ALLA (WA) Members, Just a reminder that the ALLA Conference 2021 takes place this week – Kicking off on Thursday 23 September with a Welcoming Address from Her Honour Chief Justice Helen Murrell from the ACT Supreme Court, followed by a Keynote Address by the Honourable Justice Stephen Gageler AC from the High Court of Australia. Due to Covid restrictions, the conference is being held virtually. This allows us all to access the program of speakers and events this year from the safety of our home or workplace. If you want to know more about the presentations to help plan your schedule, including abstracts, click on the title of the session in the Conference Program . ALLA members would have received an email from Emma Joneshart, President of ALLA Ltd regarding a call for nominations for members to join the ALLA Ltd Board of Directors. Nominations will be voted upon at the ALLA AGM, held on Thursday 23 September during the ALLA Virtual Conference 2021 . The ALLA Ltd Board of Directors is an important part of the Australian Law Librarians' Association's governance. Made up of at least eight members of ALLA, nominations are open for the following positions:  Vice President Secretary Treasurer Vendor Relations CPD Coordinator General Directors The Vice President position is for a term of 3 years, consisting of a year each as Vice President, President and Past President. The other positions are for a 2-year term, allowing for a sufficient time period to become familiar with the role and have meaningful impact on ALLA projects.  Each role is varied, with support from other members of the Board, and in addition to monthly meetings (mainly via te...

 ALLA National has launched their 2021 awards for: ALLA Law Librarian (or Law Library Technician) of the Year 2021 ALLA Legal Information Service of the Year 2021 ALLA Gem of the Year 2021 It's time to take advantage of the opportunity to nomination that person, or service, or customer relations person, who has provided you and our profession with exceptional service this year.  More information about these awards, and details of how to submit a nomination, are available on the ALLA National website, under  bursaries and awards .  Nominations close Friday 27 August 2021 at midnight (Eastern).  The winners of the awards will be announced at the ALLA National AGM during the  ALLA Virtual Conference 2021 , on Thursday, September 23.  The award winners and the text of their nominations will also be published in the December issue of the Australian Law Librarian Journal. 

The application deadline for ALLA National Conference Fellowships has been extended to close of business, Friday 2 July 2021. ALLA National Conference Fellowships for ALLA members are now available!! Overseas Virtual Law Conferences ALLA Ltd is offering fellowships for attending selected overseas virtual conferences for law librarians. ALLA (WA) members are invited to the ALLA (WA) Annual General Meeting on 4th July 2018 at The George commencing at 12.30pm . I would like to take this opportunity to thank Greta Dye and Thomson Reuters for sponsoring our AGM. Unfortunately, we did not receive enough nominations to fill the office bearers positions of Vice President and Secretary.  If additional nominations are not received, in order to ensure that ALLA (WA) can form a committee of management several nominated committee members may volunteer to take on dual positions.  This will be confirmed at the AGM. Natalie McDonald, ALLA (WA) President, 2017-2018 ALLA(WA) AGM We held our AGM on 9th August 2017 where the new 2017/2018 Committee were confirmed. This term we had a few new members join the Committee, David McDowell from Jackson McDonald and Judy Allan from Legal Aid. I would like to welcome David and Judy to the Committee. I would also like to welcome back the following Committee members : Vice President: Stephen Griffiths Secretary : Alice Hewitt Treasurer: Anne Young Committee members: Gil Bevan and Catherine Kafentzis. Details of the new Committee will be updated on the ALLA website soon and can be already found on the About The Committee page of this blog. I mentioned at the AGM that the attendance at past AGM’s and CPD events had been poor and one of our focus’ for last term was to look at ways of improving the attendance.
