Should you end a sentence in a text message with a full stop? Maybe not, according to a study by researchers at Bingham University. ALLA certificates of appreciation 2015

Fiona, Mawghan, and Linda were selected by their fellow ALLA(WA) members to be awarded ALLA certificates of appreciation in 2015. Thank you all for their service, leadership, and mentorship. Fiona Archibald Fiona’s dedication to ALLA (WA) and her long standing commitment as a valuable member of the WA Committee show that she is a worthy recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation. The Committee has relied heavily on her knowledge of ALLA and of law librarianship – and her impeccable editing skills are appreciated almost as much as her good humour and caring. She has previously put great effort into coordinating the ALLA (WA) blog and we are grateful for all her valued contributions over the years. Mawghan Elverd Mawghan has gone above and beyond the call of duty over the course of her presidency of ALLA (WA) and service to the Committee. Not only did she put a lot of energy into leading ALLA (WA), she even volunteered to stay on as President for a second term. She remains a valu...

A ring on her finger

Our former President, Lei Lin, has a new challenge ahead. She has a wedding to organise as she recently became engaged. On behalf of the membership Lei, we wish you much happiness in the future.

A round of applause please...

...for Natalie McDonald. In a herculean effort, Natalie has served thirteen consecutive years on the ALLA (WA) Committee but will bid adieu at the AGM on 14 August. On behalf of the membership, the remainder of the Committee thank Natalie for her valued contribution and sage advice over the years.  We wish her all the best in her life post-Committee and hope that she doesn't miss preparing agendas and taking minutes too much!

Coup for WA

Kirsty McPhee was appointed National Vice-President at the ALLA AGM on 13 September.  Hence, she will become National President of the Association in September 2013. Congratulations to Kirsty on this personal achievement which is also a fillip for law librarianship in this State.  May you have a rewarding twelve months and don't forget that you have the support of your colleagues in Perth should you need it.

Our prize tweeter

Justin Booker continues to provide fodder for this blog.  At the ALLA Conference Dinner he won a prize for one of the best tweets related to the Conference.  For his efforts, he received a copy of one of guest speaker John Birmingham's books which the author graciously signed with a personal message to Justin's tweeter alter-ego.

Congratulations to Kirsty and Mawghan

Kirsty McPhee of Tottle Partners and Mawghan Elverd of Jackson McDonald were awarded ALLA Certificates of Appreciation on Thursday at the national AGM.  These awards are given "to a member of the Australian Law Librarians' Association who has made a significant contribution to ALLA or to the profession of law librarianship generally in 2011-12".

2012 CCH ALLA(WA) Conference Bursary

It is my pleasure to announce that the 2012 CCH ALLA(WA) Conference Bursary has been awarded to Justin Booker (UWA). Justin will receive $1500 towards the costs of attending the 2012 ALLA Conference – Respect the Past, Embrace the Future – in Brisbane in September. After the conference, Justin will give a presentation to the WA members to share the experience and knowledge he has gained. We received a number of excellent applications – I would like to thank everyone who took the time to apply and encourage those who were unsuccessful to apply again in 2013. I would like to thank CCH for their generosity and support of this award – without their financial assistance the Association would not have been able to offer this opportunity to our members. Congratulations Justin. Kind regards, Kirsty McPhee ALLA(WA) President

CCH CONNECT : The Voice Competition : iPad winner

Congratulations to Lisa Kadir who is the Perth winner of an iPad from CCH Australia. Lisa's winning recommendations were: 1.  Package ebooks as gift-with-purchase for purchases of hard copy books; 2.  Adopt co-publishing model:  allow firms the ability to add links to commentary, thus producing a brand new content which can be shared with clients internally and externally in device-agnostic environments; and 3.  More filtering options which are easier to use.
