Heather Gray-Grant is business strategist, marketing expert and executive coach who recently wrote a piece for Slaw entitled "Don't Alientate Your Firm with Your Decisions".  The piece is worth a read for any leader, whether they be in a management position or not.  She lists a number of leadership traps to avoid: Decisions based on emotion Decisions based on gut feel rather than research and evidence Decisions without feedback from the appropriate constituencies A change in a decision without an appropriate process Insufficient communication.  Gray-Grant end the piece with a warning for leaders,  Leadership is about making decisions. The ALLA Conference is a little over a week away!  Unfortunately our President David McDowell, will not be able to attend the Conference, but the ALLA(WA) Committee wish all our WA members who are attending a great Conference, particularly our WA Bursary recipients, National Fellowship recipients, and conference presenters.  We've compiled compiled some important ALLA Conference information below:    ALLA Ltd. AGM The ALLA Ltd AGM notice was sent via Google Groups. The AGM will take place on Thursday, August 25th at 4.00pm – 5.00pm EST in Hobart as part of the 2022 ALLA Conference. This even may be of interest to your law library clients.  The Australian Academy of Law is hosting an event on Judicial Independence, Monday 22 August 2022 at 3-4.30pm Perth Time.  Judge Jose Matos, president of the International Association of Judges, and Justice Jacqueline Gleeson, High Court of Australia will be speaking on challenged to judicial independence, including the current situations in Poland, Turkey, and Afghanistan, along with considering what Australian judges might learn from challenges to judicial independence in foreign jurisdictions.  The event will be livestreamed from the Federal Court of Australia Sydney.  For more details or to register, see the Australian Academy of Law website .
