If you're like me and you will take any chance to promote your library service to anyone (and everyone) who will listen, you look forward to Library and Information Week to provide an excuse - and emboldening if you will - to spend an entire week taking over the airwaves spruiking the wonderful things you do every day.  Whether it’s something you've been doing business as usual behind the scenes, a resource you feel if missing out on the appropriate levels of client use and adoration, or you're looking to announce a new project, service, or resources - Library and Information Week is a handy time to get your self-advocacy on.  Each year ALIA announces the theme and 2022's theme is Rewrite. Renew. Reimagine. Take a look a the ALIA website for their discussion of the theme.  Let us know how you will be show casing your law library services during 25-31 July 2022.

Webinar Opportunity: Space Planning in the New Normal

De Gruyter has been running an series of workshops on the topic Academic Libraries Reimagined .  On Thursday 19 May the 4th workshop in the series will be on the topic Space Planning in the New Normal .  Even before the pandemic, space issues were a frustratingly common struggle for libraries. And now, as we all prepare to welcome back patrons amid this new normal of pandemic living, re-opening plans have to be carefully crafted. There are no easy considerations. There are no roadmaps. There is only ever-evolving information as research efforts try to keep pace with the spread of the virus. Speakers include Caroline Williams, University Librarain at the University of Queensland and Foster Zhang, Director of the Library at  Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou.  Luckily for us, the session is a Perth friendly 3.00pm.  Register for the Zoom event here . If you can't make it a recording will be made available on the De Gruyter YouTube channel .

ALLA Vic CPD: Where do they come from? Unreported Judgments and Law Libraries

Our friends over in Victoria are back again with another great CPD for May.  On Tuesday 17 May at 11am Perth time, ALLA Members are invited to join librarians from court libraries across Australia who manage the unreported judgments publication process.  As lawyers, community members, and librarians increasingly access judgments in their unreported form, it's important to recognise them as an important source of law. Knowing how they come to be can help inform our research.  Presenters from Victoria, Queensland and the High Court will discuss their role and that of their library in publishing judgments. They will cover the publication process, the various stakeholders involved, the impact on the profession, and the unique processes of the work they do. Full details can be found on the NEW ALLA website: austlawlib.org

Fans of typography, or those who just enjoy making things look pretty (and functional), may enjoy this resource from Matthew Butterick :   Typography for Lawyers  And for Non-Lawyers:  Butterick’s Practical Typography If you work with information and ideas, then writing plays a central role in your professional life. While we love the AGLC , this is an interesting look at typography, including font choices, that can be beneficial for drafting our internal or marketing documents.
