Introducing Law Librarians Australia!

We wish to share with you an exciting update about a cross-divisional, joint ALLA (WA) and ALLA Victoria collaboration. Over the past few years there has been much discussion about better ways to communicate with current and prospective ALLA members.  The Western Australian and Victorian Divisions have been using various social media channels for quite some time including, Twitter ( @alla_vic and @lawlibsWA ), LinkedIn , and the ALLA (WA) Blog (which is celebrating its 12th Birthday this month). These have provided a well-received presence online, but both Divisions have concerns around the possibility of missing out on hearing from current and perspective ALLA members through not being active on other social media platforms where our members are. Together the ALLA (WA) and ALLA Vic committees are looking to work towards creating a space to engage all current and future ALLA members, no matter what State or Territory they come from, in a new formed social media collaboration: Law...

ALLA Vic CPD: Where do they come from? Unreported Judgments and Law Libraries

Our friends over in Victoria are back again with another great CPD for May.  On Tuesday 17 May at 11am Perth time, ALLA Members are invited to join librarians from court libraries across Australia who manage the unreported judgments publication process.  As lawyers, community members, and librarians increasingly access judgments in their unreported form, it's important to recognise them as an important source of law. Knowing how they come to be can help inform our research.  Presenters from Victoria, Queensland and the High Court will discuss their role and that of their library in publishing judgments. They will cover the publication process, the various stakeholders involved, the impact on the profession, and the unique processes of the work they do. Full details can be found on the NEW ALLA website: austlawlib.org
