ALLA Membership Renewal emails were sent out to members at the end of May 2022.  If you have not yet paid the renewal, the ALLA (WA) Committee encourages you to do so now.  By being a member of ALLA, you receive a number of exclusive member benefits including: CPD events,  scholarships and bursaries,  networking infrastructure,  reduced prices for the ALLA Conference, and many more .  If you did not receive a membership renewal email,  please email membership@alla.asn.au and cc in the ALLA (WA) Committee and we will make sure it is followed up.  New members wishing to join ALLA are also welcome. Applications for the ALLA Ltd National Conference Fellowships for 2022 are now open.  The ALLA Board are offering 5 fellowships for ALLA members to attend the ALLA 2022 Conference in Hobart.  Each fellowship is valued at $1800.00 The fellowship amount has been designed to cover the value of the Early Bird Registration fee $650, the Conference Dinner at Frogmore Creek $150, with the remaining $1000 to be put towards flights/accomodation. The ALLA Board does not intend for the Association to cover the entire cost of attending the ALLA Conference 2022 in Hobart.  ALLA members across the country last week should have recieved an email via the ALLA AUS-NZ email list  containing the application form for these Fellowships. The ALLA(WA) Committee has their next committee meeting on Wednesday 13th July and we would like to invite ALLA (WA) Members to attend. Our meetings are currently held remotely via Microsoft Teams and start around 5.10pm. We know there has been some dissatisfaction from ALLA members around communication from ALLA National regarding access to the new ALLA website, the creation of new email lists and membership renewals. This would be an opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions and air any frustrations. The ALLA(WA) committee is also interested in hearing any ideas on how we can serve our members better. If you would like to attend please let David McDowell,  ALLA (WA) President know by COB Monday 11th August.

 Our good friends at ALLA Victoria have scheduled another great PD event open to all ALLA members. From Student to Lawyer: How univeristy libraries are preparing students for real-world legal research How are university libraries preparing law students for real world research? Are there gaps in graduates’ research skills and knowledge that law librarians should be prepared for? Academic law librarians Caroline Knaggs from Monash University, and Michelle Bendall from Deakin University, will present and discuss the programs run at their institutes to prepare students for legal practice. For a perspective from the other side, we will also hear from law librarian John Guerrato, who will discuss his experience working with graduates in a Victorian law firm.
