Call for Proposals: Asia-Pacific Health, Law & Special Libraries Conference

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), with Health Libraries Australia, the LIANZA Health SIG Community, the LIANZA Special Libraries and Information SLIS Community, the Australian Law Librarians Association and the New Zealand Law Librarians' Association are delighted to announce the relaunch of our Health, Law and Special libraries conference. The Asia-Pacific Health, Law and Special libraries conference will take place as a virtual event on 13th, 14th and 15th June 2023. Where for art thou, FLO?

The adventures of the Finding the Law Project continue!  So it’s time for another update from the Project Lead, Anastasia Stepanovic, and Project Coordinator, Alice Hewitt. Our last update on the ALLA (WA) Blog was back in June – and since then we have presented at the ALLA (WA) Conference, published articles in the Australian Law Librarian journal, and we’ve gained a lot of ALLA member feedback and suggestions – end even a few new members to the project team.  At the ALLA Conference 2022 in Hobart, Anastasia and Alice presented a paper paying respect and homage to the evolution of Finding the Law – including all its various names, formats, and teachers. The presentation was centred around where ALLA had began this sort of law librarianship skills training, the different names the course was titled over time, and the different divisions that took the lead over time. ALLA (WA) Event: Conference Recap with the Bursary Winners

ALLA (WA) Members are invited to join our ALLA (WA) Conference Bursary Winners for a night of shared learnings and catching up with colleagues.  When: Thursday 29 September, 5.20pm Where: DLA Piper, Level 21, 240 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000 Register: Via the ALLA Website Event & CPD page . Join ALLA (WA)'s 2022 Conference Bursary Winners - Sky Atkins and Alice Hewitt - as they present a recap of all things ALLA Conference 2022.  An opportunity to share learnings from the sessions, and to catch up in person after all this time. ALLA Conference 2022 News Wrap Up: AGM, ALLA Awards, Social Media, and Hobart Hangs!

The ALLA Conference is a little over a week away!  Unfortunately our President David McDowell, will not be able to attend the Conference, but the ALLA(WA) Committee wish all our WA members who are attending a great Conference, particularly our WA Bursary recipients, National Fellowship recipients, and conference presenters.  We've compiled compiled some important ALLA Conference information below:    ALLA Ltd. AGM The ALLA Ltd AGM notice was sent via Google Groups. The AGM will take place on Thursday, August 25th at 4.00pm – 5.00pm EST in Hobart as part of the 2022 ALLA Conference. ALLA Awards 2022 Nominations

Know someone who has done great work over the past year?  Now is your opportunity to recognise and celebrate the great people in our industry! The ALLA Board is pleased to invite nominations for the following awards.  Winners will be announced at the ALLA Conference 2022 dinner in Hobart.  To nominate a worthy recipient, please email Karen Rowe-Nurse , ALLA Ltd Secretary, or complete the nomination forms available on the ALLA website (and linked below) by COB Friday 19 August 2022.  Nominations are a simple process, usually only requiring a short statement to support the nomination.

ALLA Ltd - National Conference Fellowships 2022 - Applications Now Open

Applications for the ALLA Ltd National Conference Fellowships for 2022 are now open.  The ALLA Board are offering 5 fellowships for ALLA members to attend the ALLA 2022 Conference in Hobart.  Each fellowship is valued at $1800.00 The fellowship amount has been designed to cover the value of the Early Bird Registration fee $650, the Conference Dinner at Frogmore Creek $150, with the remaining $1000 to be put towards flights/accomodation. The ALLA Board does not intend for the Association to cover the entire cost of attending the ALLA Conference 2022 in Hobart.  ALLA members across the country last week should have recieved an email via the ALLA AUS-NZ email list  containing the application form for these Fellowships. If you did not recieve it please contact Paula Everett, Vice-President of ALLA Ltd .  Applications for the ALLA Ltd. National Conference Fellowships 2022 close at COB Friday 15 July 2022.

ALLA (WA) Conference Bursary Winners Announced!

Please join ALLA (WA) President, David McDowell in congratulating Sky Atkins and Alice Hewitt on being the successful applicants to receive the ALLA (WA) Bursaries for the ALLA Conference 2022 in Hobart (24-26 August 2022).  Sky and Alice will both provide a presentation of their conference experiences to ALLA(WA) members later in the year, as part of the Bursary requirements.  David  would like to thanks ALLA (WA) committee members Jane Beer and Gilien Bevan for being part of the selection committee with me. ALLA (WA) Members will have recieved the following email from ALLA (WA) President, David McDowell about the opening of ALLA (WA) Bursaries for the ALLA Conference 2022 to be held in Hobart 2022. What Classification System Do You Use?

Fiona MacDowall, the Business Manager for the Australia Law Librarian Journal , has a request for Law Librarians out there.  Fiona will be presenting a session on library classification systems at the ALLA Conference 2022 in Hobart on 24-26 August. She will be talking about Moys in particular, as well as other scheme.  For her presentation research, she would love to know how many law libraries use Moys and what other schemes are used. She is also interested in how comfortable librarians feel in cataloguing using Moys and what type of training is required.  Please help Fiona prepare this presentation by completing this short survey available on Google Forms . It should take less than 3 minutes.  If you cannot access the Google Form to complete the survey, please contact Fiona at the Business Manager email address .  For those interested, a Moys workshop is being offered during the ALLA Conference. Spaces are limited. 

ALLA Conference 2022: Program Available

Get ready to conference! The ALLA Conference 2022 website is a great resource to find out all you need to know about the conference. Make sure you take a look to check out details about the conference, including special conference rates for accomodation . This year the conference is being held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart , Tasmania and the conference program looks to have some great events in the program! Workshops Per ALLA Conference Tradition, there will be a half-day MOYS Workshop held on 24 August 2022. This 3 hour workshop will be led by staff of the High Court of Australia Library. It costs $75.00 for ALLA members, and $95.00 for non-members. Get in quick though - the workshop will be limited to 12 people.  Tours What is a librarian conference without a tour of a library? 2021 ALLA (WA) Conference Bursary Recipients - Conference Wrap-Up

This year the ALLA (WA) Committee was pleased to offer ALLA (WA) members Kate Hewit and Vidagdha Bennett bursaries to attend ALLA's first ever, and slightly delayed, virtual conference. We congratulate them both on their successful applications for the bursary.  As part of the bursary both Kate and Vidagdha have written a short blog post recapping their experience of the conference.  To help them write this piece, the ALLA (WA) provided the following questions as prompts: How did you find attending the conference virtually?
