President's letter - November 2011

Dear Members,

November? Really? And the end of November no less... where has the year gone!

Christmas is fast approaching – and we all know what that means – time for the ALLA (WA) Christmas Function! We are celebrating tomorrow night at Rubix Bar – and with well over 30 members attending it is set to be a fantastic event! Drinks and food will be plentiful – with Lexis Nexis sponsoring some fabulous door prizes! RSVP’s closed for the Christmas Party last week – so if you missed out on attending this event never fear – the CPD Committee is busy planning a full calendar of fabulous events for 2012! A big thank you to Mawghan Elverd, Lisa Lester (nee Nichols) and Belinda Eisenhaur for all of their efforts throughout 2011!

Another thank you goes out to Jennifer Moore for her wonderful Post-Conference Wrap-Up at the Country Road Cafe Breakfast Brown Bag on November 16th. Jennifer was the recipient of this year’s Conference Bursary and as such represented WA at the ACTioning the Law in Canberra. Jennifer shared a wealth of interesting and useful information from the great papers presented over the course of the conference. The 2012 ALLA Conference will be held in Queensland – more information coming soon!

I would also like to share these exciting new initiatives with the WA Members:

·         The National Presidents newsletter has been replaced by blog: http://www.alla.asn.au/alla-blog . Follow the link to subscribe for the latest news from Marissa and the NEC
·         The Australian Law Librarian Journal is now available on Austlii – from 1993-2001. http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/journals/AULawLib/

We have moved our AGM’s to July – so the Christmas Function will be the last event of the year. Plans are being made for the annual IceBreaker event which will be held early next year – keep an eye out for the details on the blog!

I am off to Malaysia on Saturday for the 2011 IALL Conference in KL – I hope to see a few familiar faces there! I will post a wrap-up of the Conference to the blog when I get back. Our VP Lei Lin will be Acting President in my absence.

That’s all for now folks - blog you later!
