The Cornell Law Library is now accepting applications for the Bitner Research Fellowship . The Bitner Research Fellowship for foreign law librarians offers a unique opportunity for visitors to experience American law librarianship, learn the American legal system, and network with professional librarians to create life-lasting personal and professional connections. Intended to foster professional development, the fellowship is tailored to each fellow's area of interest. Bitner Research Fellows are provided with exposure to Cornell Law Library's excellent resources, and the expertise of its professional librarians, while learning about advanced legal research in a global context. This vacancy will be advertised in The West Australian on Saturday, 26 July. Lynne Lyon (Manager, Library and Information Services, Department of the Attorney General) has advised that the position has been vacant since early March but was caught up in the freeze on advertising of vacancies in the public sector. It is a senior librarian position (Specified Callings Level 3, $98,686 – $109,280) and is one of three Team Leader positions carrying responsibility for library and information services to a portfolio of clients. Lynne will be the contact person for any enquiries once the position is advertised.

Hi! I have recently started at JacMac as the Library Technician, working three days a week. While studying for my undergrad degree I worked part-time at Corrs, then moved to a full-time position at the Supreme Court after I graduated.  I reluctantly left that role in 2006 to live and work in Norway for a year, where I tried sheep head (smalahove), rotten fish (lutefisk)…and hiked a glacier. I also completed a Grad Dip in Information Studies through Curtin during my time away from the law library scene to have children.  I am hoping this year to ease back into work and dance the inevitable working mum tango (or tangle? – I never was a good dancer ☺). The film uses Google Books as a prism through which issues of data-mining, copyright, freedom and surveillance are illuminated. On 27 June at Ashurst Australia, sixteen people attended a JADE Professional workshop presented by Sue Ann Yap.  Sue is the Director of Stakeholder Relations with BarNet and spoke about some interesting features, including - · JADE CaseTrace - summarises citations used for and by a particular decision; · The citator - details the citation/references at paragraph level; · The ability to upload a list of authorities and gain quick and easy access to unreported judgments on JADE.   Please note that steps have been taken to include notations of parallel citations, including the reported citations; · The ability to set up current awareness alerts at legislation level, citation paragraph level and at general topic level, among others.
