President's Letter

Hi ALLA (WA) Members,

Just a reminder that the ALLA Conference 2021 takes place this week – Kicking off on Thursday 23 September with a Welcoming Address from Her Honour Chief Justice Helen Murrell from the ACT Supreme Court, followed by a Keynote Address by the Honourable Justice Stephen Gageler AC from the High Court of Australia.

Due to Covid restrictions, the conference is being held virtually. This allows us all to access the program of speakers and events this year from the safety of our home or workplace. If you want to know more about the presentations to help plan your schedule, including abstracts, click on the title of the session in the Conference Program.

Be sure to register, if you haven’t done so already. Registrants will be able to access the conference recordings for 6 months following the conference.

If you aren’t registering – all ALLA Members are encouraged to attend the ALLA Ltd. Annual General Meeting at 12:38pm on Thursday, where we can hear from National about their plans for the future. Nominations for the Board are still open.

The @AustLawLibAssoc will be live tweeting throughout the conference. Join the conversation by using the hashtag #ALLA2021. If you’re not a regular tweeter, this is a great chance to get involved in the conversation and engage with your fellow law librarians. For added guidance, our friends at ALLA (Vic) have created a handy Guide to Using Twitter and you can always reach out to us at @lawlibWA.

Hope to “see you” at a session or two. A special Thursday evening Social Event is also taking place – a (virtual) music quiz led by Anastasia Stepanovic (ALLA Victoria President) and vLex.  Here you will have the chance to win Barrister Bear and bring him home to WA.

David McDowell

ALLA (WA) President
