It's our Blog's 11th Birthday!

It's the ALLA (WA) Blog's 11th Birthday!

Our first post back on the 25th of October 2010 was a President's Letter, from our then  President Jacqueline Seligmann.

The ALLA (WA) Committe thanks all of our current and past contributors and readers.

To celebrate this milestone, our current President David McDowell has a fresh new President's Letter.

President’s letter – October 2021

Hello ALLA (WA) members!

Happy birthday to the ALLA (WA) blog which turns 11 on Monday, 25th October. We are celebrating this with a refresh of the blog layout. A big thank you to Alice Hewitt for being behind the big resurgence in the blog this year. This has been noticed not only by WA members but our eastern states counterparts. You may have noticed Alice’s social media skills on display during the ALLA Virtual Conference 2021 where she live tweeted through @AustLawLibAssoc about conference sessions alongside Victoria’s President Anastasia Stepanovic. You can continue to follow Alice’s work on Twitter @lawlibsWA and at our new ALLA (WA) Division LinkedIn page.

I hope those of you that were able to attend the conference had a good time. I believe the cheaper cost of the conference was a good opportunity for those who would not have been able to attend the conference if it had been able to go ahead in-person in Canberra. Attendees should keep in mind that they can revisit the sessions in the conference portal for the next 5 months. In November, the blog will publish responses from our WA bursary recipients Kate Hewit and Vidagdha Bennett. We will find out what their conference highlights (and lowlights) were, how they found attending a virtual conference and what sessions they think should be revisited on the portal.

Also in late November (Thursday 25th November to be exact) is the ALLA (WA) AGM and Christmas Dinner at Grand Bar & Bistro. A special resolution will be put forward at the AGM which will commence at 5.15pm. A complimentary two course dinner will be served to members, with drinks to be pay as you go. We look forward to seeing you there and catching up over some amazing food!

The committee would love to have new people with new ideas to join so if you are interested in any of the positions please send your nomination form to the ALLA (WA) secretary by COB Thursday 28 October 2021. RSVPs and proxy forms are to be sent to the ALLA (WA) secretary by COB Tuesday 16 November 2021. If you are reading this and you're not a current member, why not join us

Looking forward to 2022, it would be fantastic to hear from ALLA (WA) members regarding any CPD ideas that you may have and be able to help us arrange. Do you know a lawyer or academic that would be willing to present on an interesting topic? Do you have your own presentation idea that you want to test out on a bunch of friendly librarians? Do you have a hosting space for such events? Do you have an idea for an online CPD?  Any help with the above will help us provide more learning and networking opportunities for our members next year.
