Introducing Law Librarians Australia!

We wish to share with you an exciting update about a cross-divisional, joint ALLA (WA) and ALLA Victoria collaboration.

Over the past few years there has been much discussion about better ways to communicate with current and prospective ALLA members.

The Western Australian and Victorian Divisions have been using various social media channels for quite some time including, Twitter (@alla_vic and @lawlibsWA), LinkedIn, and the ALLA (WA) Blog (which is celebrating its 12th Birthday this month). These have provided a well-received presence online, but both Divisions have concerns around the possibility of missing out on hearing from current and perspective ALLA members through not being active on other social media platforms where our members are.

Together the ALLA (WA) and ALLA Vic committees are looking to work towards creating a space to engage all current and future ALLA members, no matter what State or Territory they come from, in a new formed social media collaboration: Law Librarians Australia.

Law Librarians Australia Logo

Law Librarians Australia can be found on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter under the @LawLibrariansAU handle. It will be a space to share news, information and humour relevant to all Law Librarians and legal information professionals all over Australia (and maybe even our colleagues around the world).

The Law Librarians Australia collaboration offers the ALLA divisions an opportunity to work together, to streamline activities, and give a voice to all our members – no matter what state or territory they come from. The new Facebook account transforms what used to be ALLA (WA)’s Facebook and will be jointly managed by ALLA Vic and ALLA (WA) – with all Divisions, Chapters, and Members welcome to contribute content and encouraged to follow along and join the Law Librarians Australia community.

Both ALLA WA and ALLA Vic are excited to see how this collaboration unfolds, and how the online presence of the association expands in the coming years.

We look forward to our members connecting with the Law Librarians Australia initiative and encourage that you follow, like, comment and share where you see fit.

While these platforms will mainly highlight content from ALLA (WA) and ALLA (Vic) for now, there will still be the sharing of events and other news relevant to all law librarians and legal information professionals.

After all, supporting and uplifting one another is important and sharing information is at the very core of our profession.

Don’t forget to follow us @LawLibrariansAU
