CPD events

July Matthias Liffers from Murdoch University opened the technology showcase session with a brief introduction to cloud computing, the latest trends in internet computing and hardware trends. A hands on session followed where those librarians with access to new devices shared their work experiences with the lunch time participants. August Laurie Shervington from Minter Ellison presented a lunchtime session in August to 20 or so participants on the complex topic of Corporation Law. Laurie outlined the governance issues involved in each of the main Acts which support the overall corporation legislative scheme.

From our website coordinator Kelly

As you have probably already have been advised, the ALLA website now has a members only section. Because there hasn't been that much change on the WA section of site, we thought that we would take advantage of the new facilities and expand what we supplied via the website. What we'd like to know is what you'd like to see on the ALLA (WA) section of the website . One possibility we've been kicking around is putting up a list of members with contact details in the password protected part of the site. We thought that as the only contact details list people generally had was the one in the front of the Union List (which by now is rather out of date), it might be helpful to have a new one. We thought it should be opt-in, so, if you'd like us to provide your details in the password protected members only section, please email Kelly.underwood --at-- minterellison.com. Please also send in your ideas for the site; what would you like to see?

President's Letter - October 2010

Salutations!* The ALLA NZLLA Joint Conference in Melbourne was a great success; the papers covering a range of themes including the impact of social networking on the practice of law and law librarianship, the issue of free online access to law, the future of law reporting, mobile delivery of legal content and the latest developments in online legal research training.  If you wish to learn more, or share your experience of the conference, come along to our Brown Bag Lunch on October 22.  Mawghan Elverd, our 2010 Bursary Recipient, will be providing a report on the conference. ALLA is conducting a National Membership Survey to collect data that will enable law librarians and information professionals to compare their job and pay with colleagues in other law libraries in the academic, private and public sectors.  I encourage you to complete the survey. You might already be subscribing to international lists, but I thought this might be worth sharing. I have been subs...
