Legal Librarian Position - Supreme Court Library Queensland

The Supreme Court Library Queensland (SCLQ) is Queensland's principal legal information provider, delivering innovative information services to members of the judiciary, legal profession and community. Its extensive resources span local, national and international materials, accessible online via the Library catalogue, as well as a comprehensive collection of print research materials, totalling more than 150,000 items.

The position reports to the Information Services Librarian and assists with the delivery of high quality information services for library users. The position is initially for 4 months, from mid January to mid May 2015, with potential for extension and/or more permanent employment.

Responsibilities

Provide high quality information services for members of the judiciary, legal practitioners and other library users, both in person and remotely via telephone or email

Specifically -

  • Provide prompt and professional responses to legal research enquiries
  • Participate in the design and delivery of training for library users
  • Take responsibility for the creation and delivery of two current awareness alert services
  • Participate in activities that create a greater understanding and promote increased use of library services
  • Assist the Information Services Librarian with the measurement of information services activities and compilation of data for reporting purposes
  • Assist with administrative functions such as processing of user registrations, loans, etc, as required
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, including identifying potential efficiencies and enhancements in the delivery of information services

Requirements
  • Formal tertiary qualifications in librarianship
  • Law library experience
  • A high level of expertise across a range of legal research tools, in both print and online formats
  • Experience in designing and/or delivering training to library users highly desirable
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a time sensitive environment, balancing competing needs to complete tasks effectively and efficiently
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a wide range of library users, from judiciary to members of the public
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and to process improvement and innovation in service delivery
