Here at the ALLA(WA) Blog, we are taking the chance to help members to get to know their Committee a bit better.
Introducing: ALLA(WA) President, Mawghan Elverd, Acting Knowledge Manager, Jackson McDonald
1. Who is a hero who has inspired you in your career?
Dewey The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World (he was a cat, that lived in a library…)
2. What is the proudest moment in your professional life?
Being asked to present to library students about law libraries. Trying to get them to see that it’s not all about public and school libraries.
3. Career advice – what’s your top tip?
Just say yes! If you think you can’t do it, or you don’t have enough experience just say yes and give it your best shot. You will surprise yourself and learn what you are truly capable of.
4. What’s your favourite legal research tool?
The legal dictionary. Especially when you are first starting in legal research and someone is asking you to research ultra vires or quantum meruit you can at least understand what they are saying!
5. If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?
Research into information literacy and how it can help people that are homeless.
6. Librarian cliché: What is your favourite book? (Or one of your favourite books?)
Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
7. If you didn’t work in the information industry, what would you be doing?
A museum docent or a professional Dachshund pet sitter. To be honest, I think I am just made for libraries.
