ALLA (WA) President's Corner - Vol. 1 Issue. 1

Hi ALLA(WA) Members
Natalie McDonald
Natalie McDonald, ALLA (WA) President

Each month I’ll be writing a President's Corner post, letting you know about the services and events of the ALLA(WA).

ALLA(WA) AGM
We held our AGM on 27th July 2016 where the new 2016/2017 Committee were confirmed.  This term we had a few new members join the Committee Catherine Kafentzis from University of WA Law Library and Stephen Griffiths from the Dept of Attorney General’s Library. The details of the new Committee have been updated on the ALLA website, and our blog.

The attendance at the AGM and past AGM’s have been poor and one of our focus’ for this year is to look at ways of improving the attendance either by combining the AGM with another event or holding it at different times (i.e. Breakfast).   If you have any ideas or feedback please let me know.

Upcoming ALLA(WA) PD & Social Events
The ALLA(WA) CPD Sub Committee have been busy creating a schedule of professional development and social events for this term, with the first event being held on 15th September.

The session is on ‘Mining Law in WA’ presented Anthony Papamatheos from Francis Burt Chambers. Anthony will discuss the types of litigation under the Mining Act 1978 (WA) before the Warden or Warden's Court and will then explain some recent cases.  We have opened this event up to members and non-members where non-members will pay a fee.  If you haven’t responded to attend, please let Alice Hewitt (a.hewitt@ecu.edu.au) know by Tuesday 13th of September. Numbers are limited.

In October, we will here from the Wolters Kluwer CCH Conference Bursary recipient over a lunch time 'brown-bag' session.

MOU Update
It is anticipated that ALLA(WA) members will vote on the MOU later this year. We have tentatively scheduled a vote to be held during November.  More information will be provided to members around this issue along with details of the date and venue.

WA Unreported judgments
AustLII have confirmed that the WA unreported judgments should be online in September.  We will bring you updates via the Blog when this occurs.

Procedural
This year we have created a couple of new ALLA(WA) Sub Committees to better reflect our activities.  They are: Compliance & Regulatory Sub Committee which covers compliance, auditing and regulatory issues, and the Website & Social Media Sub Committee which combines website co-ordinator, blog editor, Flickr and Twitter management.

With the proclaimed changes to the Associations Incorporation Act 2005 (WA),  the ALLA(WA) Compliance & Regulatory Sub Committee are ensuring that the ALLA(WA) Constitution complies with these changes.

Blog Statistics
I am pleased to report that the Blog has posted over 600 posts and had 52000+ page views! Thank you everyone for supporting us.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any ideas around CPD events or would like to provide feedback.

Kind regards,

Natalie McDonald
2016/2017 ALLA(WA) President
