Meet the ALLA(WA) Committee: Gilien Bevan

Here at the ALLA(WA) Blog, we are taking the chance to help members to get to know their Committee a bit better.

Introducing: Gilien Bevan, Library Coordinator, Allens.

1. Who is a hero who has inspired you in your career?

I didn't know I was studying to be a Librarian until 2 months into my grad dip! Having completed a BA (History) I wanted to further develop my research skills. The university counsellor suggested a grad dip in info science. At no point did he mention Libraries. Good thing I ended up loving it and I'm certainly doing a lot of research

 2. What is the proudest moment in your professional life?

I don't know about a particular moment but I am proud of what I do. As Rachel Weisz expressed in the film The Mummy (before passing out blind drunk), I may not be an adventurer but I am proud of what I am .... a Librarian!

3. Career advice – what’s your top tip?

Love what you do, do the best that you can, be adaptable and think positive.

4. What’s your favourite legal research tool?

Not one in particular but I do agree with Justin Booker, if it doesn't have proximity operators, come not near me!

5. If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?

Help Justin finish HAL.

6. Librarian cliché: What is your favourite book? (Or one of your favourite books?)

Toss between "La Prisonniere" by Malika Oufkir and A Fortunate Life by Albert Facey

7. If you weren't a librarian, what would you be?

Genealogist/Historian
