Meet the ALLA(WA) Committee: Luise Crisafulli

Here at the ALLA(WA) Blog, we are taking the chance to help members to get to know their Committee a bit better.

Introducing: Luise Crisafulli, Library Manager, Francis Burt Chambers.

1. Who is a hero who has inspired you in your career?

Hero might be too strong a word … but it was my sister who initially inspired me to become a librarian (it was the job she wished she had). If it wasn’t for her encouragement, I would have stuck with my first preference of commerce. Back in high school I only really associated librarians with school or public libraries. My sister opened my eyes to many of the other industries that have a library. So glad I changed my mind at the last minute – I love my job.

2. What is the proudest moment in your professional life?

Establishing a library intranet at Chambers with the support of First Software Solutions.

3. Career advice – what’s your top tip?

Be confident! It also doesn’t hurt to keep a lolly jar in the library to encourage visitors.

4. What’s your favourite legal research tool?

After winning one of the vouchers at the Christmas party, this will probably sounds suspicious … LexisNexis! Followed closely by Jade.

5. If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?

If I had the time, I would love to be a foster carer/puppy raiser for a guide dog in training.

6. Librarian cliché: What is your favorite book? (Or one of your favourite books?)

Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris…

7. If you weren't a librarian, what would you be?

No surprises here, an event planner!

Keeping Up With ALLA (WA) News

In March 2023 we announced the  closure of the Allgwa list , and welcomed the arrival of the  ALLA (WA) Google Group .  To take full advantage of the Google Group - particularly the ability to deliver news directly to your inbox - the ALLA (WA) Committee has made the decision to cease posting to the ALLA (WA) Blog.  ALLA (WA) Members are encouraged to join the Google Group to make sure they don’t miss out on key news, events, job opportunities from the committee and our members.  Over the past twelve and a half years we've have over 208636 visitors (and still counting) to the ALLA (WA) Blog, from all over the world. Register Now for Library Leadership: A Celebration

All members of the Western Australian Library sector are invited to attend this all day professional development event. Organised as a joint project by representatives from LIS within WA including, ALIA West, ALLA (WA), WASLA, ALIA ARL WA, ALIA HLA, WALTG, TAFE WA Learning Resources Services Network, CURTIS, and with special thanks to the State Library of Western Australia. This event will offer attendees the chance to improve cross sector networking, by getting together, discussing and exploring what we all how in common and how we can all positively influence our changing profession.
